Default Craig Motors in Napa - Bad Business!

I just wanted to share my experience with Stan at Craig Motors in Napa, California. He posted several NOS parts in his inventory, so I called to pick up some things I need. I purchased a set of center caps – GM part # 3989479. He quoted them as NOS original GM parts. When they arrived, they are actually current GM replacement parts. I even asked him to pull the parts and verify prior to shipping, and he outright misled me. When I called today to arrange for a return, he advised that I would be charged 30% for restocking. He quoted his invoice, which I didn’t see until arrival of the incorrect parts. It’s sad when a business must prey on the trust of customers to make money. Feel free to contact me if you need additional details. Buyers beware!!

As the economy slows this kind of bad business will probably increase.

Perhaps this gentleman honestly didn't know he was selling you current-made caps so I suppose we should do the right thing and give him the benefit of the doubt? Wouldn't want to unfairly slander him would we?

Remember, people are basically good. Still have to be careful when money is involved.

This is nothing new. I've had several bad experiences with them over the last 10 years. Only one good one. I prefer not to do business with them. I bought some supposedly NOS smog check valves, they arrived used and I sent them back and they said they got the box, but the parts were not in there. I never got my money back.

That explains the tone in Stan's voice when he continually told me to send the parts back after I told him I wouldn't pay the 30% restocking fee for his misrepresentation.

He knew exactly what he was doing, and I already gave him the benefit of the doubt by questioning him and asking to return them. He asked if the parts were in a GM box, and I said they are - the current dark blue and white boxes, not the old lighter blue box with black and white. He said "well..did you ask for a black box?" with a sarcastic tone. In fact, I did - I specifically asked if these were original GM NOS parts in the old (original) blue, white and black boxes. He said they were, and that's now what I received. Further, if it was an honest mistake why not take them back and offer a full refund? 30% of what he charged me is full retail for two caps from any GM dealer.

Always be cautious about ANY dealership offering old, original NOS parts for sale. By now most of the NOS stuff as we know it is long gone! Unless it is a real old Dealership with basically the same parts people that have been there for 40 years may have a better chance of what they are talking about, and what we need. NOS to them is something discontinued maybe 3 years ago! Besides you should only be going into the Napa Valley for wine!

As an aquaintance of mine once said: "50% of the people in this world wake up trying to figure out how to screw the other 50% out of their money".
