Default TJS44 (Tom Schlauch's ) 1969 G.T.O.!

This is a original Fremont car, delivered new to Montana. It's also a original 2 tone code 55-50 bench seat GTO.It was ordered with a 3.08 open and a M20 muncie, power disc brakes and manual steering.I had an aluminum block RA V engine sitting around and found this car on ebay.It was in the Palm Springs area.I drove down to see it and was high bidder and bought the car. After getting the car I put the V motor in it,added power steering and put in a 3.55 posi. The car is VERY close to the Royal Bobcat color combo so I had the deck lid, stinger and the rest of the paint trim done on it along with the Royal Bobcat emblems.

The RA V tunnel port engine is made up of the aluminum RA V block,Ross custom dished pistons for 9.5 CR.The rods are Carillo and the crank is a Joe Reath welded stroker, made from a forged 61 pontiac SD crank with center counter weights and a stroke of 4.125 and a 4,20 bore. The cam is a Comp Cam roller 245-252@50 with a 400 lobe lift ground on a 112.H&S full roller rockers. The heads are stock unported with 2.19 intake and 1.73 exhaust. The carb is a 4545 RA V Holley restored by Jet Performance distributor and balancer are stock RA V pontiac items.

This engine is one of 2 aluminum RA V engines running in cars. One of a few blocks that got out of the factory. The other block is one I also owned at one time.

The car has Hurst wheels repopped by the Parts Place and stock Firestone redlines.I also added the upper and lower Ram Air pans from the Parts Place. The headers are custom ones done by Dean Lepole before his passing. The rest of the car is very much tha same as when I bought it.

I love what you did with this car....the only thing different I would have done, is I would have left the Manual Steering in it. You made a nice car, even better.

Dan.

Beautiful car Tom!!!

The Royal Pontiac paint scheme was very rare, started in 1968. I believe they only did a few cars like that. There was one guy I knew up in Canada that had a low mile (22,000 I believe) 1969 GTO RAIV 4-speed, and it was an original Royal Pontiac car, with a gold and white paint scheme.

Tom, any idea how many aluminum RAV blocks were produced?

my block is one of 6 that were picked from the trash at the factory. The one I own took much work to make good.Core shifts and perosity problems were great.I pretty much know where all of the 6 are. There were other alu blocks out there from early developmental engines giving to M/T.There was a article in Hemmings muscle machine a couple months ago that showed that motor. There were hemi blocks made for M/T and im sure other mid 60s early 70s that were givin to the "hooked up" racers. The early 421 SD andd RA V stuff is my passion.Tom

Tom, I think that your GTO is way cool! I love the color combo. Having an aluminum engine on top of that is just the icing on the cake.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful ride with us...and have a Merry Christmas!

I have seen the cars that Tom has brought to the local car show here in Huntington Beach and every time they are a treat worth seeing. He always parks with about 8 to 10 very special Pontiacs that look almost perfect. His cars are always well done and an education because the cars tend to be one of very few made or have a motor or some part of a motor that I have heard about but never seen till I see one of Tom's cars. We need to feature more of Tom's cars.
