I'm just finishing up a 1969 COPO tribute car for FAST/ pure stock. Does anyone have any recommendations that one brand (Goodyear, Uniroyal, Firestone) is better than another?

If you want "correct" tires, these are the only reproduction tires available.
F70/14 Speedway Wide Tread RWL, R/S, W/S http://www.kelseytire.com/pages/preformancetires.html Wish someone made the Tiger Paws, but to no avail. As far as specs are concerned (what you're allowed to run,) it's best to get the F.A.S.T. site. |

Since you will be smoking those tires off quite regularly, why not get in touch with SmallHurst, aka Rusty Small. He has a tire buy going on and you can find out about the kind of stuff you need to know over here.....

Seems like every f a s t car I've seen runs bald polyglas re-pops..I think they run 'em really hard too like 50 PSI...

[/ QUOTE ] That varies about like the tire brand [FStone or GY]...used to, guys never went under 40psi, but the latest trend with some cars is to run 'em down so the Polyglass will actually *wrinkle*...of course, with the 600-700+ horsepower those cars are making there has to be something to absorb a lot of that energy off the line...! |

I asked John Kelsey about the Uniroyal Tiger Paws being repoped. Since Uniroyal now falls under the Michelin banner, anything concerning old Tiger Paws would be under Coker's domain. The number would have to be there for anyone to go through the efforts of making a new tire.
As for brand, I seem to see both Good Years and Firestones at the top. Of course, I seem to favor one. ![]() Anyone looking for tires, give me a PM. ![]()

I'll give Coker a shout and see what they say. Seems silly not to make a tire that came on a Camaro or Chevelle, as there's so many still out there.

Our 427 car came with the F70 Uniroyals. Traction was nil. I don't know how you would make them hook up. I tried a friend's Wide Tread GTs and they were even worse. About like driving on ice. In the day, the Polyglas were the only way to go once they were available. Sounds like they still are except that the '69s didn't get them. That was a shame. Had our L78 car out for it's first run of the year. Just around the block. With the cold pavement, it was breaking loose in second gear when I gave it a shot. BFG T/As aren't the answer. Then again they weren't factory either. I'll be an F70X14 customer if the Uniroyals become available.
