hood still in place, getting some extra clearance by removing front hinge bolts, what is the advantage to this, or is this a one man operation requiring the hood stay put ?

One man operation.........Gotta do what it takes...You're right, took the forward hood bolts out and loosened the back ones and propped the hood enough to get it out....LOL

I am happy you are keeping it original. I am sure it will be a great job as usual. No dreams about 4 barrels and off road camshafts with 4.56 gears and headers. You know how you are???? HA
