Just heard things are pretty rough out there on the National weather news. Is everyone ok?

I'm afraid it won't get much better today...we're 80 miles or so west of Poplar Bluff, and we got another 3+ inches of rain last night here and the majority just skirted us...and there's an 80% chance of rain again today, and 50%/70% chance for Saturday/Sunday, respectively. I know Rayburn Pennington lives in Poplar Bluff, but I *believe* he's upstream from the main levee breach, and iirc his house sits on a bit of a hill...but I don't think he's too far from the Black River itself? From there south and east has been taking a pounding, and they can't seem to catch a break...they've had like 3 nights in a row of deadly tornadoes, plus the flooding, with more in store tonight.

As of this morning, we've gotten over 14" of rain since Thursday at our house... a good friend of ours about 15 miles to our north/west is well over 20" of rain at his house, and it gets heavier from there. Schools around here were shut down for a couple days because a ton of road closures. For perspective, '08 was a good flood year, and the news said we've gotten *twice* what we got then...our only saving grace was last year's horrible drought conditions. But they're talking like the rivers are still gonna be larger than they were 60+ years ago, which had large chunk of this part of the world underwater.

If SEMO is still in session, Reid could tell us how the big river is looking in that part of the world...I know in the mid'90s when I was going to school in Nashville they had interstates closed, and this is supposed to trump that.

Rob it looks like the water will stay for a little while because it doesn't have anywhere to go. Read this:

Yikes...and that's flat country, which makes it that much worse.

And now we've got hail, and it's been raining like pouring p!ss out of a boot for a while...

I pity the folks along *any* of the rivers in this area.

Our rivers up here South of St. Louis are out of their banks as well with nowhere to go. Hopefully the Mighty Mississippi can get rid of the water before the Northern Ice Shelf melts above us or it will be worse then 1993. I got to go, its time to build an arc.

Reid is still at SEMO...as I was talking with him last night on Skype. He'll chime in here later.

I also called Kasey yesterday (on his birthday) and he said that he's fine..but a tornado took part of his son Kase's roof off and destryed a neighboring house.

Everyone stay safe...PLEASE!

Reporting in from SEMO here in Cape Girardeau, Mo. this is from the National Weather Service in Paducah, KY on Tue, Apr 26, 2011, 7:46 PM CDT, the Mississippi was at 43.2 feet, flood stage is 32 feet, and we have an expected crest of 44.5 feet on friday. Here on campus we have had water in the lower levels of dorms and some class buildings. My mom and granma and grandpa came down to visit yesterday for my birthday and said that the river bottoms between perryville Mo and Chester IL was so flooded that you could not tell where the river stopped and the farm fields started.
