Default REPRODUCTION VIN... WHAT TO DO??

I have a buddy that bought a 69 camaro, but after a year or so of doing some research on the car, found out it was a old race car at one point and had a reproduction vin plate and some other things wrong with the car. When he bought it he said it was sold to him as an all original documented car. What are his options?? Thanks in advance.
Have not been on here in a litlle while, but love the new look and format.

Yes, but it also looks like the hidden vin may have been messed with, With out tearing the front end off completely to tell, he is not positive. He thinks it just takes alot of value away from the car. It went from all original metal and # matching to reproduction Vin #, and like he said to me who Knows what else.

Alot will depend on where and who he purchased the car from.

If he purchased from a bonded dealer he will have a much better chance of getting recourse - contrary to this, if he purchased from a private seller his options will be greatly limited and most likely restricted to only civil actions.

If there has in fact been some altering of VINs - tell him to be very careful who he makes aware of this fact as they car can easily be confiscated and then he will have a total loss. As well, he does have a problem car on his hands should he decide to resell it unless all the VIN issues are resolved.

Thanks for the input, sounds like he has some thinking to do. I know he paid alot of money for the car, If he when the legal route, couldn't the car get taken if in fact the vins where tampered with?

What you need to do is call Bruce Shaw, Esq. Bruce is an attorney in Willow Grove, PA who specializes in vintage car fraud. He has an impressive background, and will give you the straight scoop.

It has an obvious reproduction vin# or is it a state issued replacement vin#? Some states will use the orginal vin#, verified by the hidden vin#'s. And some states create there own vin#. Can you post some pics? Roger

The Facts that he knows so far are. 2 owners ago sold the car with out a vin to a guy, that owner had a reproduction vin plate made and put that in the car. Then my buddy bought the car with a vin in the car. Actually I do have pictures of the vin and hidden vin on cowl, but as of know I can't post them until my buddy figures out the course he wants to take. He spent good money on the car and I think he is getting more pissed as time goes on. He has a hard time letting things go. I say drive it and enjoy it!!!

Would he be able to tell him if the car might be taken away becuase of the vin iussues? Also would the previous owner who bought the bogus vin, and installed it, be liable for the sale of a bogus car?
