Non dealership people may not know, but GM used to have a policy that when a dealership changed hands, everything (parts) was returnable for credit. Had a friend that helped do inventory at the former I.A. Miller Chevrolet dealership in Goshen, Indiana when it was sold in the mid 80's. They had all the NOS grille trim pieces in stock for him to finish the 60 Chevy he was restoring at the time. Anyway, he pulled a NOS 265 55 V8 block out of that stock plus a lot of other items that we bought for swap meet stock. The bad thing was that when they took all the remaining stock of items (some of it as far back as the 1930's) to the GM warehouse in Illinois, after they unloaded it, it was pushed it into a pit and crushed. Had he known what was going to happen to all that old stock, a lot of empty boxes would have gone into the crusher instead.

That dealership was one of my stops each month for a few years and I always enjoyed looking around when I stopped in. It was a really neat place.

No, I didn't go downstairs either. I knew there was some neat stuff down there but I didn't get the grand tour. It was still a working dealership when I was visiting. I mostly stood around by the Parts Dept counter. Nice folks in Roanoke,AL.
