Default Tips on Shipping from the USA to Canada

Hey guys, i will be using Vintage Musclecar parts to restore my Holley Carb.
Any tips on the best way from Shipping from the USA to Canada as i do not want a nightmare were a value of the entire carb is hit for 13% taxes for something that is being serviced.
I do not mind paying customs for the service amount but not taxes on something that belongs to me.
I talked to Eric and he told me some Canadians have delt with him but he could not re-call exactly what they did for the custom form.
Before i send the carb out, tips would be much appreciated.
He mentioned a fellow named Keith that sent him a few carbs from Canada. If you see this thread can you please tell me what you did?

Be sure and have Eric declare on the shipping form - "rebuild services for 1970 carburetor being returned to owner, vintage over 25 years old..."

there are no duties and taxes (except GST) on parts for cars over 25 years old...the trick is that they see you are only paying for services rendered on the carb. So that they don't ding you on the entire insured value which could be as much as 2 grand i am assuming...

DONT use UPS on the return trip to Canada either. Their duty collection fees are much higher (as in crazy stupid higher) than what the postal service charges.

Thank You guys
Des that is some good advise,
I will also see what Keith has to say.
I already told Eric to use USPS Airmail,i know that UPS is the worst for a Canadian and i will never do any service with anyone if they use UPS as there form of shipping.

Some good points here Danny. Usually I have stuff shipped to a friend in upstate New York and then go down to pick them up from there. No hassles that way.

Definitely avoid UPS, their brokerage fees (not duty) are ridiculous. FedEx isn't too bad. I have also found Postal Service to be the best. I've got a package coming from California as we speak and is being sent Postal.

If you talk to Keith be prepared to talk and talk and talk - I say that in the kindest sense . He may pop in here if he's not out cruising in his newly acquired Vette.
