Default weatherstrip choices.

getting ready for paint on my 69. Just realized I don't have door or roof rail weatherstrip. NOS isn't an option for me (too cheap). I know this has to have been discussed, but couldn't find it on a search. Don't need a trunk weatherstrip as I still have an NOS one.

My main concerns are, in this order:

Proper fit. Doors shut without slamming.
It works to keep out moisture and wind noise.
It at least looks similar to the original at first glance (don't really give a farrot's fanny whether some judge with a magnifying glass can distinguish from NOS).

Here are the choices I see:

Metro gold series (15 year warranty)
Metro platinum series (30 year warranty)
SoffSeal (not sure of the warranty)
Steele rubber products (supposedly real rubber as GM used) (lifetime warranty)
OER (I believe this is the manufacturer for the latex seals sold by HBC and Ricks)

Although I have found info on the Metro platinum, I have yet to find a vendor that actually offers it. If someone has personal experience with any of the above on a 69 camaro coupe, please share your experience.

Thanks.

Bob Harris. Camaro specialties is selling seals that are supposed to be pretty good and have the same profiles as original.

I'm using some of bob's seals. They look right on. He doesn't have 67 door seals because he hasn't found a nos set to model them after. I have a couple of white stripe trunk seals but his are a lot cheaper than those. I tell you we are kinda crazy with all these nos parts and their prices. I think it would be cheaper to invent a time machine. I would have loved to see my car come off the assembly line or sitting on the dealer lot.

Although quality control wasn't great in 69. My car still had original paint on it, or at least the part they painted. Didn't get painted at the bottom of the tail pan very well. Runs in front of both rear wheels. Seems like none of them had the parting line properly aligned going from the fender to the door. Because the front sheet metal was painted separate from the body, I have even seen mismatched paint on one of the metalics. I was just messing with my instrument cluster a couple of weeks ago and realized one of the mounting holes was never drilled or pierced. I guess when the worker went to put that screw in, it was too much trouble to slow things down so they could drill a hole.

While I want may car pretty much correct, I am not nuts about NOS everything. I do have some NOS parts that are going on my car, but that is only because I bought a bunch of parts in 1977 knowing I would want to paint it and make it new again some day.
So, are you working on a 67? If so, I guess you can't give me a personal recommendation on the 69 roof rail w/strips.

later NOS parts fit worse than the new and improved Chinese parts. I used Metro weatherstrip and it looks and seems pretty good to me. Its 10 years old and never a door problem. NOS door weatherstrip is crazy money IMO.
