Default Nova gas cap

Looking to see if this is normal. When I run the L79 nova say 5 miles, then I stop and get gas I get a big burst of air from the gas tank when I remove the gas cap. I have tried 2 different (new) gas gaps both are vented? The nova has no vent line just a 3/8 line from the fuel pump to the gas tank. So what am I missing. The car runs fine but it is almost like it is sucking the tank looking for a vent? Could this be why when the car sits for a couple of days it is hard to start. Other than that it runs fine? Any ideas?

Jason

Jason
Assuming your running the cap pictured, vented/anti-surge. It is normal for the tank to run at a positive pressure. These caps are not directly vented to atmosphere. There workin against a very light spring pressure. And the lower the fuel level in your tank the larger volume of are will be displaced. If you take the cap off and lightly blow through the small hole on the back, you should notice a slight resistance to flow before it vents.
If the cap were vented stright to atmosphere gas would come out during acceleration with a full tank.

Mike you are the man! The Professor of caps. Jason they did that kinda thing when I pumped gas in the late 60's. Most guys came in and got $2.00 of 260 which gave them enough gas to ride around town on their dates and pick a race with someone. They came in the next day pretty empty and the swish from removing the cap was there again!
