Default 69 Z28 Radiator Questions - Re-core

Hi Guys,

The Z28 radiator is at the radiator shop. It was leaking a bit after the car warms up. The shop owner said the core is almost at its breaking point and we should consider replacing it. He also said sometimes with GM radiators there are difficulties using original tanks with new cores.

Does anyone have experience putting a original tanks on a new core? If I went the route of replacing the radiator, who sells the best one?

Thanks,
Dave

I think he's just being cautious. He put a new core on original tanks on a Corvette radiator for me. Worked fine.

Who sells correct cores for a 69 302?

Thanks,
Dave

Arts Radiator in Flemington, NJ is very good. (908) 782-8944. He has done the recores on all my cars over the years, reusing the original tanks on each job.

I have had it done it many times over the last several years and have had varying degrees of luck. The real issue is the age of the old tanks where the brass gets thin and can have small pin holes in it. The new core takes the pressure well but the tanks don't often fare as well.

I have full faith that my radiator shop can do this job correctly. Like I said he did it on a BB Corvette radiator for me a little while ago.

I just ordered the correct core from Heartbeat City.

I appreciate everyone's help!

Dave,
Had my original radiator for my 69 (Z) recored about eight years ago with no problems to date. Was able to reuse original tanks and upper & lower parts of the core.He told me you can't get anymore original than that.Even saved my radiator tag also.If your tag is still there, make sure you tell them not to remove it.

The original tag is still there. I told them not to touch it!

Old thread I know. Was the tag soldered to the tank originally, or just clipped on?
