Default Operation Blindside - 2013 Camaro Nat's

So,

I've been talking with Jason Terrell, the son of Ron Terrell who was the original owner of the Tin Soldier COPO.

Jason is a super cool guy and was conveying how tore up his Dad was when the TS was found and sold before they could buy it back, more so when they found out what it is worth. He said Ron always regretted selling that car in the mid 80's and buying a new Camaro to campaign.

Ron still races today, in his 70's, and still runs the second "Tin Soldier" an 85 Camaro. Jason also has a 3rd gen Camaro that he campaigns as "Tin Soldier.

We have hatched a plan to get Ron some time with Tin Soldier at the Camaro Nationals (Ron's not on the internet, so I am safe discussing this!). Holly is one of Jason's sponsors and we are weaving a story about how Holly wants Jason's car at the Nationals for a shoot. This will get Ron out there without raising his suspicions. Jason's mom is in on the deal, and she has been quietly gathering some of the era memento's and pics from Tin Soldiers campaigns.

One pic Jason told me about is Ron is about to make a run down the strip, has an open face helmet on, tank top, and his handing his mom a beer to hold through the window as he is taking the line!

Jason also sent me a few pics of the current TS:

Jerry M is helping to get me connected with Bob to set this up at the Nats as well.

Is anyone from here going to the Camaro Nats in June? If so and you want to be there for the reveal let me know and I'll keep up with the thread on the plans as they firm out.

We plan on getting Ron a run down the 1/4 with Tin Soldier.... Against Jason in his Tin Soldier!

Just left NOLA today, having a business meeting in TN tomorrow, and then on to MD on Tuesday, should be there by Wednesday to plan the surprise for Ron, then on to the Nats.

Anyone else going?

Jason told me today that his Dad still thinks Holley is wanting a photo op with the TSII, so the scheme is still safe.

Rich, I'll be arriving Frederick,MD Thursday eve after flying into BWI.

I would think that many of this sites members will be supporting Brian Henderson's Solid Lifter Showroom at the Carlisle G.M. Nationals.

Too bad that this happened to the CAMARO Nationals but it is what it is in 2013.

In the 2nd Gen LEGENDS (restored) we will be seeing Mike Steitz bring his gorgeous Forect Green 70'L-78 for the first time
and Tom Petrasek from New York is returning with his Cranberry Red 70 R/S Z-28.

Anybody that can make both venues will be on Camaro overload.

regards to all

Rich,

The 1969 Tin Soldier and the 1985 Tin Soldier would make a killer display at the Gathering...

Would be awesome.

I'll get you guys the whole story as I get some time, still recovering from that trip. From the patomic to the Mississippi in 24 hrs was a bear of a drive, in the meantime, here's a vid I put together.

I will say this though, Ron did not work at a chevy dealership as was thought. He worked for GM at the Norwood plant and retired from there. Ron himself worked on his COPO at the various stations on the line and drove the car off the line.
