Visiting Los Angeles Feb 27 - Mar 1st

My wife and I are looking into getting tickets to see Bob Segar in the Los Angeles Forum on February 27th!

Can anyone recommend a nice beachfront hotel for us to stay at? Not too far (but not too close either) to the LA Forum... Santa Monica or Venice beach look nice. We're also going to try to take in the LA Lakers game on March 1st because we've never been to an NBA game.

Is there a good car show or event going on in the area that weekend that I could work into our schedule?

FWIW I would prefer to stay in Santa Monica than Venice. Plenty to choose from. As for car shows,you could check out Bob's at Burbank Friday night and if you are up early you could catch Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach on Saturday morning. Lot's happening in LA all year round. Lots of info in the link.

Only problem with going to So Cal is that you don't get to see everything in one trip.Ya have to go back again.We were there few years ago and there's lots to see and do.How long did it take you to fly in from Australia Damien?

I think the Petersen Museum may be closed for renovations? Certainly worth a look if it's not though.

Lots of non car stuff to see and do also.We drove from San Fran south on the PCH to San Diego.Alcatraz,Golden Gate Bridge,Hearst Castle,Queen Mary,Catalina,Venice Beach,Balboa Park,La Jolla,Old Town ect......Just retired 4 months ago and California is back on our travel radar!

Here is my take... Whatever your budget is for time, leave double for the traffic factor. It is horrific at best. Parking lots for freeways in the middle of the day for no logical reason.

Santa Monica is my favorite. Beautiful ocean views, wonderful shopping and food. The main pier is superb Fisherman's Market area and the promenade is great too.

Venice is one of a kind! Much more artistic youth. Free spirits. Lots of pot and &quot;Doctor&quot; shops but iconic LA county. Never stayed there but visited friends and had a great time. Beach is beautiful. Very good food and bars. Famous &quot;White Man Can't Jump&quot; basketball courts and play grounds and Muscle Beach too.

Down Town LA is fun but if the homeless situation is not something you can stomach, I would stay away. It does have its perks, financial district, United Arts Theater, famous hotels with interior architecture that will blow you away but its a lot less city like than NYC for example.

I'm a big basketball fan and player - I suggest trying to grab tickets to the Clippers. While the Lakers are iconic and Kobe is still a talent, you'll really enjoy watching CP3, and Griffin...

Stay in Santa Monica close to the pier if you can but add a half hour to whatever your plans are because Santa Monica blvd. always has slow moving traffic and it will take that time just to get to the 405. The first thing I always do when I am up in that area and I have time is go to the Getty museum just north of Santa Monica and if I still have time to spare I will go to the Museum of Natural History by USC. The Getty is a must see because of the artwork of the Masters and the ocean views of the area. If you still have time for the Doughnut Derelicts car show and you end at the Santa Monica pier figure leaving your room at about 4:30am to get to Huntington beach by 6:00am on Saturday morning when all the good cars are there. It is pretty much over by 8:00am.

Geez Dan, you summed it up better than I ever could and i'm a native! Bout the only thing I would add is Shutters is a good stay in SM, and a drive up the coast to civic center in the BU is always great-

PCH is a good drive north of Santa Monica but if you decide to go south do not go south of Torrance on PCH then pick it up again after Long Beach.
