Default Carpet Dye

I'm in the final steps on buying an all original unrestored corvette. The car is in spectacular condition but I would like to improve it without jeopardizing the originality. The first item I want to address is the interior carpet. The original red carpets have faded and I am considering dyeing them. Has anyone successful done this? If so I'd like hear how the results are.

Thanks for the suggestions. The interior is red so I'm concerned about matching the color as close to original as possible. If it were black it would be much easier. Keep the suggestions coming.
