I dig this one - very cool tribute car. I've always had a thing for '61s....

One of the nicest things about that (IMO) is the 6cyl VIN from the donor car. No one will ever be able to claim it's the real one. I was involved a lot during the restoration that Ronnie performed. The engine is a '62 068 block with all stock '62 internals.
Not to be picky, but the valve covers on it are not '61s. Bill also was adament that the original car was delivered with orange valve covers and insisted it be restored that way, even though we now know the '61 409s were delivered with silver covers. That just adds to the rumor that the car was delivered as a 348 car and the 409 was planted later. Verne Last edited by Verne_Frantz; 04-10-2020 at 08:42 PM. |

One of Don Fezell's old cars. Builder, Ronnie Evans was pretty well known racer around these parts back then, too. Awesome piece.

Yep, Ronnie ran his Wildfire '62 for many years (actually 3 different cars). His last one managed a 9.68 while he owned it and I was on his crew. Verne I miss him a lot! Last edited by Verne_Frantz; 04-11-2020 at 08:01 PM. |
