Default Advice from members please

I want to send my dated correct 3910 carb to Eric for a rebuild. I’m scared to send it afraid it will get lost in this crazy shipping stuff going on. It’s a constant thing going on in my area about packages getting lost either by sending or receiving.
Question, what’s my carb worth IF it gets lost. I want to make sure I get enough insurance to cover a loss.
It would cost me about 80 bucks for gas to take it to him. That’s an open option!
Thanks,

For the 80 bucks I’d bring it myself. Shipping with insurance any good way will be somewhere close to that.

I've had a couple packages lost in shipping in the past year so for 80 bucks I'd take it myself too. Getting to meet Eric and see his place would be an added bonus.

I also concur, the $160 and however long the trips would take would be worth the peace of mind to me...

Cheers,
Anthony

Road trips are ALWAYS worthwhile for some adventure and peace of mind. I have bought NOS panels for my Camaro in Buffalo, NY Tulsa, OK St Claire Shores, MI and Kingston area of TN. Every one was retrieved in person and brought home to avoid the chance of damage, loss or theft.
Enjoy the trip...

Thanks all, I was leaning toward taking it up to him. It would be a task just to find one then have it restored. Best option.

I buy and sell a lot of parts and ship most all of them. Loss is very rare. Damage definitely happens but 99 percent of the time it is due to poor packing, not carrier negligence. I would ship it. Maybe ask Eric how many lost parcels he had encountered. I’m
sure he has received many damaged ones but that probably is from poor packaging as stated above. There is a heavy duty container specifically made for shipping Holley carbs. I had a carb shipped to me in one and it seems bulletproof.

Thanks,

Jason

This is the carb shipping container. Kinda pricey but you would have it forever. They don’t do a good job showing pictures of it. I can post pictures of the one I have here when I’m back at my shop. The carb physically bolts to the container.

If u dont want to drive , i would overnight it, risk of loss is alot less as it gets special handling from the get go. I do this with very expensive ferrari parts - like 30-40K for 3 carbs. Insurance is a hugh hassle to get thru - so the additional overnight $$ is worth it.

if u insured for your value and the time it takes to find another etc, the overnight pays for itself.

just my thoughts......

Take great pics prior and insure for the full replacement value. When I ship rare stuff I always overnight. Dated replacement carb are available. It is all about your comfort level. Don't lose sleep over it!
