Default Baldwin Motion Production Numbers

I know the 500 total figure has been tossed around for the BM cars. Does anyone have an educated opinion on the breakdown of this figure? I would venture to say Charley's BM Camaro could very likely be 1 of 1. It's a shame Joel is not more forthcoming with the details.

With possibly 300 odd COPO Chevelles built, there are a few of these in COPO and Yenko trim still around, at least a half dozen or more in Southern Ontario alone. Gives you some idea as to how many Baldwin-Motion cars were built. Not many.

OK guys,

Help the *Supercar-Neophite* here again ......

Charley - - when you say your car is a Motion, but not a Baldwin car ??? I know Joel had relationships with all kinds of dealerships, Chevy and others. Does that mean that yours came from another dealership, or was it directly from Motion Perf ??

Thanks for being patient with me .....

Talk S-L-O-W ........

Casey, After 1971 (I think) Baldwin Chevrolet was sold and the B-M cars became Motion cars as they were not sold through Baldwin Chevrolet. So technically, Charley's car is a Motion car as it was converted by Motion and never passed through Baldwin Chevrolet. In the collector circles, cars that were sold new through Baldwin Chevrolet in Motion modified form are considered the most desireable. As opposed to a customer buying a new '69 Camaro from a dealer and then taking it to Joel's shop for conversion after the fact. Hope that makes sense.

Joel Rosen did state in an interview that about 500 cars were built. Motion was stopped from building cars for public highway use in the USA in 1974 by the US Gov. From what I hear, the EPA was going to fine him $5000.00 for every air pollution control device he had disconnected. Some type of settlement was reached where Motion agreed to stop selling the cars. Motion continued building race cars, show cars, export cars and did some custom body work cars with Motion graphics in 1984. Some Motion cars did end up on the street after 1974 where the owners may have ordered them as race or show cars or some type of other arrangement to get them built.
