To the best of my knowledge, there were never any special factory IROC type 2nd gens. I've come to find that anything is possible (however this is highly unlikely a factory job). Motion Performance did make a couple of Camaro's in this era with this front spoiler and turbine wheels which were very similar, if not identical to these. These cars WERE supposedly made for export...hmm. If I saw sidepipes on this thing, I'd be out hunting this car down to check out.

Didn't Mark Donohue and Bill Mitchell build some second generation Camaros with a link to IROC?

I know that Bill Mitchell built a few special camaro's around the same time that the Yenko Turbo Z's were out..(and they had very similar front styling). I believe the Mitchell car was equipped w/ Minilite wheels and was normally aspirated with some suspension tweaking (Gulstrand parts?)

I don't see any similarities to the Mitchell Camaro and don't think I have ever seen a hood like that before.
Bill Mitchell is from here in CT. and has a web site. There is a picture of one of the older Camaros on the site. Maybe you can email Bill to answer some questions. http://www.billmitchellsvd.com/ |

IROC used Porsches in 1973/74 and after one year switched to the cheaper Camaros to build race cars for their series.
The car in question doesn't even look like a 1974, and it's probably not even a Z28. It's got a 75-77 header panel. Wheels are cheap. It has a 1969 Z28 emblem fastened onto the grill, a glass hood and some fancy wheels. It has the cow catcher air dam on it which is available from several sources. It, or a similar style dam was used on the real IROC Camaros. |

Fhakya,
Did you see the Bill Mitchell 1980 Daytona "Hugger" Camaro at Hooked on Classics in Watertown last summer? Not sure if it sold. Was VERY reasonable in price, good shape, all there, with mini-lights and glass cowl hood etc. I think it was #89 of 90. Daryl had lots of paperwork, I copied some. He said it came from FL, where they were all sold, and was a driver. |

No, I didn't get a chance to see that. I need to make another road trip out there...that place is great! One of my old roommates told me about this place by his home-town, my 2nd year of college (93 or so) and we went out there. I wasn't expecting much. This was the last place I expected to see original Hemi cars, an LS-6 and numerous other great rides. Does that place have any web links? Anybody else in the MN area should check this place out if you can...it's a little ways off the 'beaten path' but it is worth a trip.
