On the subject of 1970 LT-1 camshafts......I just received one in a parts package deal that alledgedly is "Brand New". The lobes appear unworn and the bearing surface have a preservative on them......I can see a "GM" mark in the steel and some "pink" paint but othyer than having someone check the previously quoted specs how can I tell what it is?????.........Thanks, Chuck

I have the original cam out of Dave Belk's
deuce, it's number is 2182, not sure if
replacement cams will be the same.

Finally got around to examining the "LT-1" cam I spoke of above.......indeed the end is stamped with the 3972178 that Stan points out. On the rough cast area just forward of the dist drive gear there is "1539" cast in not stamped and 180' around same area is I 5,...possibly 1 5......are any of these #'s the casting dates, as I dont have the same 4 digit #'s the others above quoted......at any rate does NEW G.M. LT-1 cam have much value in anybodys opinion.....Chuck

Chuck;
There should be a number stamped/cast on it somewhere, I think it should be 2178?

Rechecked cam from Belk's car,and I don't find a part number on either end. Maybe two
numbers on dist. gear end, but I can't make them out. Forward four lobes is the cast in 2182, below the next lobe is cast out GM14
and 180 is cast out 14.
I was told by Lujack Chevy parts people that new cams are made in Mexico.
We put a Lunati in the deuce were restoring. I think Dave used a comp.
Original cams ran strong. Really didn't drop off till about 7000. LT-1's sing at 7000
just don't stay to long.
As far as value, if it's GM new orginal, maybe some,to the right person.

New cams for new vehicles are maybe made in Mexico, but I was always lead to believe that Crane makes all the performance and over the counter musclecar cams.
