Default BALDWIN-MOTION Ignition

Morning, Gentlemen.....I have just purchased an older Jacobs Capacitive Discharge ignition box on E-bay. It appears identical to the old ones (maybe a Grant unit?) that Baldwin-Motion had on their Phase III camaros in 1968-72. It is rectangular with raised rows on top in almost a triangle shape; a recessed square in the middle where Motion put "Phase III, Phase III, Phase III" in lieu of the manufacturer's decal. My question is what color was the BALDWIN-MOTION unit? (the Jacob's unit is blue)
Thanks for any help in this matter.

The original units were made by Grant. They were black in color. Grant used to advertise in the '69/'70 mags of the period and showed their CD boxes and helmets in the same ad. Joel probably bought the Grant units are "decalized" them which he did on all his parts. Jacobs maybe using the original tooling as these companies may have sold off their tooling. Jacobs have only been around for 25 some years at best.

Dave,

Thanks for all the info; I figured you would be the first one (maybe the only one) to reply as you have educated me with this unit previously. I have seen the units advertised in the old magazines but the ads are always in black and white; I thought the units may be black but I rather check since the rest of the car is extremely authentic so far. I am also getting the decals made up for this unit as well as all the other decals that Motion put out. They sure weren't timid about their advertising! Thanks again, my friend.

I seem to remember an article in Hi-Perf. CARS or Rodder & Super Stock showing a blue ignition box on a '68 Phase III BM Camaro. I'll try to find out the issue.

On the cover of the October '68 issue of Speed & Supercar there is a '68 BM Phase III Camaro. The ignition box on the drivers side inner fender is definitely black w/the blue motion sticker.
