Scuncio was a full service dealer. This ad mentions the 427/425 HP cars but it is not clear if they were transplants or COPO. They sold a ZL1 so maybe they sold some 1969 COPO cars also.

I know they sold at least 1 L72 COPO. So they were in the loop on COPO's.
Be interesting to talk to Bob Johnson. ![]() Kurt

1973 Vegas had to be some of the quickest dealer built cars ever sold. If this Scuncio LT1 Vega wasn't enough you could have purchased a 1973 454 Motion Vega that was advertised as a 9 sec. street car.

Joe C, The Camaro in the ad you posted appears to be the same car/picture that is on the cover of the '69 Nickey catalog. Does there appear to be any emblem above the engine numbers? Are they 427 emblems? What really tips it off are the wheels. These look like the "official Nickey Camaro wheels" in '69. They were very distinctive, and also pretty obscure. I have searched high and low for some and found only one person who could even identify them. Is the use of this picture a coincidence, or did Scuncio have a relationship with Nickey? Anybody have any ideas?

The picture in the ad is very poor quality and shows no detail. It does have some strange looking wheels that do look like the ones on some of the Nickey cars. I was told that many of the early mag wheels did not fit the disk brake cars so maybe that has somthing to do with the wheels they used.
I go to RI a few times every year (great beaches and Newport is fun) and have looked and asked around for info on the Scuncio cars. I met a guy who said he had one and he showed it to me. It was a rust bucket with no documentation but did appear to at least be a L78 car. I bring my Scuncio folder every time I go to RI. (just in case) |

Yenko Duece Registry,
------I cant remember what the date was,but I took that green ZL-1 for a drive around the block right off the floor of Scuncio when new. They had a real hard time selling it at the time.I always attributed it to the fact that,in showroom condition it was actually pretty slow. That, and the price of course. ------I had heard at the time that they actually took the motor out and put in a more normal big-block to get the car to go away.Let me stress that that was an unsubstantiated rumor. For all I know the car may have the original powertrain. However it did feel pretty slow.I ended up buying a 396/350 Camaro with chambered exhaust.it actually felt as fast or faster.Probably just the extra exhaust noise in retrospect.........Bill S |
