Default What was your first car?

What was your first car? I am sure this has been done before but since I am kind of new here maybe everyone wouldn't mind telling a few stories once again!

My first car was a 1969 Camaro Z28. I bought the car in 1970 from Roger Penske's Uncle's son (his cousin) who painted the car Sunoco Blue with pink pin stripes. I kept the engine stock but put headers on it. Body mods include American Torque Thrust wheels with some Goodyear Blue Lines. It had a 4-spd, cowl hood, and a gauge package (may have been aftermarket)? The car screamed! I have tons of pictures and old time slips but I do not know how to get them on the YENKO website. I had the car for 20 years, then sold it to a neighbor. He then sold it to his uncle who gave it to his son and he raced it for a year or so. Since then we have chatted little about the car. This past 9/11/01, he was killed in the terror attacks. I do know where the car is though. It has been sitting since 1991 inside my neighbor's uncle's garage. The family stopped driving it after their son was hit by a drunk driver with some friends. (He was in his friends car.) Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people and their son is now wheelchair bound. I have been thinking about giving the family a call. I may have to expand my garage to fit one more in there. Time have changed and now I have a 1966 Corvette and a 1972 Chevelle. Thanks for reading.

My first car WAY back in late 1993 was a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix 400, auto. It was primer grey with white vinal interior and white vinal half top. It was more like a ghetto crusier though!

Hey Mossport, send me the pics and I will post them for you.

I bought my first POS auto in 1967. It was a 1960 Pontiac Parisienne 4 door hardtop with a big in-line six and powerglide. Very sharp Bronze color. A major boat to say the least.

First transportation? 1969 900 Harley Sportster Hardtail Chopper that broke my ankle starting it. First car? 1970 LS-6 Chevelle SS, Cortez Silver, Black Interior, M-50 tires on rear with gabriel air shocks. Factory 8 track player with two 8 tracks, Led Zeppelin and the Doors. Reason for parting ways, one too many hole shots with the big tires and a car full of people. Busted the turbo 400 trans case all the way around where it bolted to the engine. Now I have to confess, I figured Chevys werent any good, bought a 65 Mustang with a radical engine, on went the 50 series tires. Traction bars? Who needs them. Showed up to pick up the girl I was dating, found out someone else was dating her that showed up the same time in his built 66 GTO. Did we fight? No, we settled it like wanna be men. A drag race. When I dumped the clutch at about 7500 RPM the rear end housing twisted down so hard it busted the whole center section out. Had the car towed to the local hang out and parted it out on the spot. Best part is, the other guy, he was so rattled watching the Madman, we both dumped the girl and are friends to this day. He is a freind of Vern Bower on this site, also restoring a Dusk Blue Glockner COPO right now, so this unbelievable tale can be checked out. Have Vern ask. Moral of this story? The Chevelle made me walk, OK, I sold it for $1500. The Ford? It made me walk also, but it also caused me to not get laid, OK, I sent it to the Junkyard. That one incident made me a Chevy guy forever...Who says that the women dont have the power and control! Somewhere in that first year of having a drivers license there was also a Mopar, 68 Coronet RT, 440 magnum. My fondest memory of that car was not owning it anymore, but one incident does come to mind. I raced and beat a 68 400 Firebird, his reason for losing? He claimed he couldnt see the road cause I jumped him out of the hole and there was so much blue oil smoke coming from my tailpipes he had no vision. Never before or after have I heard THAT one again, but the funny part was I know he was telling the truth as I couldnt see him in the mirror for the smoke, I was pouring 5 quarts of bulk oil a day in that thing. I think the only reason it was fast is because it was so worn out there was no friction. Me and the neighborhood guys once tried to blow up a 283, wedged a board on the gas pedal and stood back to watch. Screamed for twenty minutes till it ran out of gas, didnt blow. Put gas back in it and parked it back in the neighbors driveway where we found it. He drove it another year before it finally went, I bet he still wonders occasionally why that happened. That was all the reasons I needed to stick with Chevrolet, and except for a few momentary lapses of reason along the way, I have never looked back. When you start asking questions of the nature of first cars, all sorts of things come to mind. Many would be best forgot.........
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

65 2 door impala 3 on the tree converted to a 3 sp. in the floor, original 283 car switched to a 69 350, 300hp engine and added headers, it was quick don't know what gears were in the rear. bought it for $800 sold it for $800 then bought a 70 mach 1, 351 cleveland, 3 speed that would fly, got conservative, went to college, save gas right, then 1 69 vw bug, on to a 76 pontiac astre, what a turn for the worst.

My first car was a hugger orange / white striped, '70 RS Z-28 that I bought in 1980 when I was a junior in highschool. It still had the original LT-1, M-22 and factory 4.10 gears. The car was a screamer and won numerous street battles on the weekend. For a while it had the full chrome hooker headers and side pipes along with a chrome roll bar. Many passengers burned their legs on those side pipes. The car took me to my highschool prom. and to beach week after graduation with a keg of beer in the back. So many memories in the car! Today, the car still resides in my garage, original drivetrain still intact waiting for its turn to be brought back to showroom condition.

Some of guys are showing your age, LOL.

My first ride was í78 Camaro 305 4spd, laugh all you want but it was living large at the time to be 18 and own a 2yr old Car! In 1980.
It came in on trade at the bike shop I was wrenching at being my Uncle and the Owner were buddies and we all rode together we did a little in house creative financing I think with GMAC and the folks co-sighed the loan, It went straight home and I sold or traded everything of value away like most guys did and picked up the Cragers and air shocks! We were in business now guys!, Chrome traction bars came later after sever wheel-hop developed from the meats, Had allot of great times in that car, it was ok quick just right for a first car, chirped the tires well up into third gear, Kevin may remember the car running around the North end, Bitter lake, Golden Gardens an Colby of Course.
