Default 1969 X66 cowl tag - real or modified?

This one looked a little strange to me, here are two pictures..

What do you think?

Bad fake. Early tag, shouldn't have X codes.

Looks like a real tag, with the X66 stamped in it later. Someone probably told him real SS396s should say X66, so he said, "no problem, it does now."

I have seen the same thing done to early Z tags. A real tag with a real fake X77 or X33 stamped into the tag to try and conform to misguided imformation. Does more harm than good, for sure...BKH
