Default Restoration parts questions CAMARO

Before I try buying theseprts, does anyone have any experience with them. I'm concerned about function and most importantly wether they are exact or only close like so many repro's out there....these parts are offered by all the big vendors... 67 camaro reproduction jack assembly (is it colored correct and shaped correctly?) 67 Camaro door latch assemblies and window regulators for front and rear (these are relatively new repros and I wonder mostly about function as they cannot be seen very well) 67 disc brake backing plates w/part numbers stamped in (mine are pitted and will never look mint, are these spot on?) GM hood hinges are still available but are they exactly as original or shaped noticably different? Also, are they

correctly phosphated still? New reproduction of 12 bolt rear backing plates and rear end covers? Fit and finish correct on these? Thanks to anyone who reponds with real experience with these parts. Tom

I think I have at least one full set of used 67 window regulators and door hardware if you're interested. Not sure what it's worth or how to ship but they'll probably fit much better than the repops.

As for the other stuff on your list, I can't imagine a new reproduction jack assembly even remotely resembling the real thing.

I have come across three different 1967 Camaro jack designs. They are similar but there are small differences. One is a NOR, 4 speed coupe, One LOS, rs, powerglide, coupe, and a NOR, powerglide, convertible. I have not seen the repro's.

Regarding the disc brake GALVANIZED dust shields.....I can only speak with authority about 1970 repops.....but the NEWER N.O.S. and/or repops have a (small) rolled or folded over edge whereas the originals just had a plain or sharper edge.....if these details matter.....I have had originals replated with clear zinc.....but you never duplicate the sheet galvanizing.....Chuck S

I'm pretty sure the original 67 front disc backing plates were bright cadmium plated and the rear drum disc backing plates were black, same gloss and paint as the rear axle assembly.

I bought a set of reproduction 67 front backing plates and they looked pretty good, had part numbers and everything. I ended up replating my originals and resold the repros before comparing up close, but they looked good even if the plating seemed more link zinc (brighter) than cad (duller).

Galvanizing is common on Camaros but nobody offers to do it or even recognizes that thats what it is..I know that the taillamp back, fuel neck and 6 or so convertible top parts as well as all window regulators and tracks are galvanized..I bet the backing plates could have been too..great point..I think your right about different style jacks as well..I would want to use new repro items only if they had the correct finishes on them and fit but I doubt they are galvanized etc..that's why I'm asking for hands on reporting..thanks so far

What was the original finish on the front drum backing plates?

Thanks,
Greg

My regulators and tracks are in fine physical condition and the galvy is mint..I was just thinking of getting repro ones so I did not have to waste time riveting new rollers on. I did some looking and found that all the places that hot dip (850 degrees) galvanize are very big companies not interested or set up to help out the little guy..I did find a guy in Everette Mass that said he'd do it for me...he said the Land Rover restorers have been using him for years??? Anyway, I'll get back to all of you when i have it done and post some comparison photos..hopefully my stuff wont come back looking like a freeway guardrail!..Anyone with the repro jack assembly feel free to speak up..and THANKS

Does anyone out there in the camaro world have a extra set of window roofrails that they might want to sell? I hope i discribed them correctly, it's the stainless steel channels on the lt and rt side of the car for the window weather strip to set into. Thanks!
If so, you could e-mail me at [email protected]
