Hey guys... I what tires should I go with for the Camaro? Polyglas GT or Wide-O-Ovals? I believe the Wide Oval debuted in 1970 so in that case the W.O. would be more correct for my car. But then on the other hand, Day-2 mods go against "correctness" so I think that Polyglas GTs might do the trick. I just bought a set of bad ass wheels (for those of you who know please don't say a thing!) so the project is back in action. Let me know what you think. I know there are other options out there but I have narrowed the search down to these two tires. Thanks!
-Dan P.S. if anyone needs a decal/sticker guy I have a GREAT reference!

Personally, I like the looks of a Goodyear bias ply over a Firestone, but thats just me.

The Goodyear polyglas made today, have the similar size white lettering as the Firestone wide ovals of '69---

I'll throw in another vote for the Goodyear Polyglas GT white lettered. I just prefer their looks over the Firestone.

Firestone has a better contact patch, if you're going to use the car for racing

Please excuse my swearing in my first post. I am so excited it honestly slipped!
The Z28s recieved PolyGlas GTs and the SS Camaros received Wide-o-Ovals - So I could either way. BUT, I have located a set of PolyGlas GTs so I think I am going to go with them. THANKS GUYS!! ![]() |

I think you will find that the Wide Tread GT tires were not of Polyglas construction. From my experience the traction was somewhere between nothing and nil.

Dan,
I had red line Wide Ovals on my '62 by Oct. '68. Bought them at Pep Boys. F-70s on the front, G-70s on the rear. I thought they had great traction (for the time). (loooong gone) Verne. |

I actually drove on and sold both during the late 60s and 70s.
The Gdy Wide Boot and Firestone wide oval were some of the worst performing tires ever made. Go with a belted tire. I almost did a 360 in a brand new LT1 corvette driving it home from the dealership on Gdy wide boots. POS!
