Default cobraracer Magazine Gallery

[ QUOTE ]
I realize I'm drifting way off topic but djunods S&S cover post got me thinking how cool it would be if there was a 'gallery' where you could post or check out old photos. I have a huge collection of old car mags (CarLife,Speed& Supercar, HotRod,CC,SS&DI,Cars Ill,C&D,R&T..etc..)from 1956 to about 1980. I keep thinking what a waste to have them sitting in storage boxes when I know there's alot of awesome photos & articles in them that could be appreciated. A neighbor began saving them at 15yrs of age then a few years ago decided he was going to throw them all away because he "didn't think anyone cared about articles on old cars anymore". When I told him I was he gave them to me so I won't sell them but I wish I could share the info they have. Friends are always asking to look thru the 'Library', even the ads are cool.

I have a similar idea over at www.makoshark2.com for Mako/Maco articles. I buy all the books & magazines that I can find that have information on those cars and then scan them in. I still haven't posted the pictures yet, because it is quite an investment in money as well as time... and then basically putting them up for free. I get the feeling that others feel the same way I do, because I've encountered resistance at times to getting decent scans of articles.

BTW---I always scan my books & magazines at 300 dpi... for magazines I generally then go through and do a clean up (almost always have wear marks etc). I then reprint them for a notebook that I have. For magazines I remove the staples so that I can individually scan the pages... for books, I have been known to cut the pages out (some books I buy 2 copies of just for that reason).

I have no problem sharing the stuff I have if there was a place everyone could contribute articles and pics to be displayed. Trouble is I don't have a scanner. Just a digital camera right now. I don't think it's so much cost, but Setting up a site like that would take a fair amount of time and effort. I'd love to see something like that happen, would just be a question of who wants to take on the project. It could easily be a group effort as far as contributions of articles and pics but I think it would be a labor of love for someone to take the time (if they have the time) to organize and display it all for public view.

Another thing that would be cool would be a search database of the Table of Contents for the magazines. Extra nice would be a database of the picture captions and ads... but that would be a ton of work.
