Default Research your VIN

Is there a registry where you can research your Oldsmobile, and find out where it was originally sold (dealer), and what options it came from the Factory with? In canada, you can research your oldsmobile this way, but I can not find a similar place for US sold cars.

Canadian built GM car owners have had this service available to them for years but not for US built cars.
They have been promising us this info for some time now but I'm still waiting...

This will supposedly seperate the winners from the losers.

Actually it's Canadian "delivered" cars - doesn't matter where they were built.

My two cents.......I just bought a Canadian Built 67 SS427; According to info I found, Canadian built means just that, built in St. Therese or Oshawa. Very rarly, if ever, was a car built in the US for delivery from a Canadian dealer. This according to Alan Colvin, author of Chevrolet, By the Numbers. GM Vintage Services is a great source of info with just a VIN#. The different provinces (Ministrys of Tranportation) will do a very impressive title search for just about $12 bucks! DO YOUR RESEARCH...........it counts in the end....and was fun for me!

MOST of the Domestic cars sold in Canada were/are built in the U.S.

A few models were Manufactured specifically in Canada, mostly due to some Canadian content laws from what i understand, such as Beaumonts and Acadians that everone is familiar with.

In addition, some Chevrolet products like full size Chevy's, Malibu's(chevelles) and Nova's.

Production on any given model didn't amount to many cars, usually topped out at 6 or 7,000 max prod. for the year,
Most models less than that.

This "Canadian built" activity related to Canadian content laws ended I think in 1970?, when some kind of import law was changed, after that any plants up here made some of the "regular" car and truck lines, but not anywhere near enough to satisfy the needs of the Canadian market.

Any car "built OR sold" new in Canada SHOULD have this info available, but GM restoration services would be able to answer that for sure.
