Default 70 1/2 Z-28 ID

Today while driving around I came across a dark blue with white stripes 70 Camaro parked under a carport, and have a few questions for you guys before I approach it.

This car has split front bumpers, does that signify anything on the 2nd gen cars? It also appears to be a Z-28,how can I verify this? What would a solid no rust 70 Z-28 be worth?

Thanks in advance.

Jimmy

Jimmy the best advice I can offer is to go to www.nastyz28.com

An excellent 2nd gen site. Z/28 is spelled out on the trim tag so if it's the original tag it's a no brainer.

2nd gen cars are creeping up in price. Grab it while you can.

Split bumper indicates Rally Sport. Should have the parking lights above the bumpers next to the lights not below. Parking lights below the bumper are standard Camaro. If it's a true rally sport it will have chrome trim rings on the tail lights and back up lights. There are other clues. Check the site out.

Good luck.

If it's a Norwood built car it will be on the trim tag. Otherwise (LA) check for everything.

If it's a Z, it should have both front and rear sway bars. Check for in dash tach.

12 bolt rear is also a clue. CTC is the suffix on the pad for a T400 equipped car and CTB would indicate a 4 speed. I think the redline on the tach should be 6500 RPM and one of the key clues, beleive it or not is the gas pedal. It should be mounted to the floor and not just attached to the accelerator lever. (Who would go to the trouble to try and fake that?)

Darren right on the money. If the car is a true Rally Sport, it should have the Z-21 Style Trim Group (what Darren was hinting at). The Z-21 Trim includes body color door handle inserts, chrome molding on the back of the hood, chrome accents on the back up lights and brake lights, and full bright chrome around the windows. I am not 100% if the U14 Special Instrumentation package was standard on the Z-28. It was not standard on the Super Sport.

See my site too. Other things to look for are:
-gauge pkg is standard
-150 mph speedo
-8 grand tach
-front and rear sway bars
-rear leaf springs
-12 bolt rear with 3.73 or 4.10's
-low bucket seats, headrest is separate and adjusts
-Muncie M20, M21 or M22 or auto trans was avail
-no A/C on Z's
-no front spoiler
-1 piece spoiler or 3 piece is available
-dual sport mirrors was an option
-duals into a single cross flow muffler
-dual chrome tail pipes, some were welded with a chrome attachment which were straight out while others cam fully chromed to the muffler and were angled inward.
-780 cfm holley
-2 core rad
-clutch fan
-A.I.R. pump
-chrome shifter knob with a 4-spd with console
-black 2 piece shifter knob with a chrome bottom
-R/S is an option with the split bumper as long as the signal lights are round and beside the headlights
-5 spoke 15x7 mags with centre cap and trim ring
-windshield antenna
There's probably more but that's off the tip of my head.
