Default Non-title to New title

What paper work do you need to title a car from a non-title state...I would think, bill of sale and scratch copy of vin, notorized of course, what else? and anything specific the bill of sale needs to contain?

I know in Oklahoma any car brought in from out of state must have a VIN inspection at the tag agency, even if it has a title. I just took a 57 minus motor and trans to the tag agency today on a trailer.

I am sure this varies from state to state. Used to be we could just have a cop come by and inspect it, fill out a form and then we could take the form to the tag agent. Now it has to be a personal inspection.

I bought a 71 Corvette from a rat wholesale operation in Tennessee a few years ago, all I had was a bill of sale and A New York registration receipt. After 3 trips to the KS. DMV, I finally located a gal who was diligent enough to consult a giant reference manual that spelled out every state's criteria for vehicle titling. That book was as thick as the Dallas yellow pages, but it had the info necessary for me to obtain a new title in my name. I would assume somebody at your local DMV has that book. Once the book was consulted, I just needed a VIN inspect, the registration, and my bill of sale. Good luck.

Every state has a web site for whatever they call their DMV or BMV.
If the site doesn't have the specific info you are looking for, there will be a phone number to call.
They are used to answering these kinds of questions.
