Default engine block stamp

I have a 427 351 casting block on Ebay this block has something I have never seen before. The pad on the pass side has never been stamped before but down by the starter flange there is a TO number. Anyone ever see this before.

I have an Aug 69 cast CE block in my 69 L-78 with a T0809 stamp on the starter flange. It could be an assembly date of August 9 for the engine. Most likely yours is a replacement block as well with no CE stamp on the deck pad.

Never seen that before, what is the casting date on the block, is it a four bolt block?

Found it on ebay, I196 (11-19-66) so the casting date is perfect for the assembly date. It is a four bolt block. It looks like it may have been assembled on 1-6-67 as a short block, I hope someone comments on why it was stamped in that spot.

John, I have seen that on a CE motor in a 67 corvette. It was a 435 car with a 72 dated 454 4 bolt. It had the original dated heads on it.

My (427) 321 block which was made in late 67 is stamped exactly as yours. I always thought that the lack of any numbers on the flange in front of the heads was because of being decked before I bought it.

I have seen stampings in that location on several BB's.

Great authentic pic.Looks like the 8 is upside down.
The only time I've seen blocks stamped like this is when they were replacements.
