Default Found a 67 SS in a barn!

I just discovered this site and wanted to pass along what I found in a barn near Iron River Wisconsin. Last winter I was sitting in a local bar with one of my baseball buddies and he was talking across the bar about a tractor he wanted to buy from this older gentleman. He was telling him about this tractor and he had mentioned that he had other stuff he needed to get out of the barn. One thing he wanted to sell was this "old chevy that's been in the barn for too long". I asked him what kind of car it was and he said "a chevelle". I asked if it would be OK if I came out the next day to look at it. He agreed and here's what I found: It's a 67 SS that's been in this dry barn for 28 years (1978). He's the second owner and he had bought it for his son in 1977. His son blew the motor so they pulled the motor/ man trans and the car didn't move in that 28 years. He somehow lost track of the motor/trans and I'm still trying to track that down. I did buy the car and yesterday started stripping the paint to ready it for restoration. The motor I'm installing for now is a 427, aluminum heads, roller cam & running on E-85 (85% alky). I bought the TKO 600 5 speed Elite Kit (with twin clutch) and have that ready to install. I should have the motor back soon. I have the car completely stripped now except for the passenger door panel and have yet to find a build sheet. I'll attach a picture of how I found it in the barn...

Now, whenever you want to go to a bar just tell your lady that you have to go to the bar to find a valuable musclecar!

There's a bar in Wisconsin near Lake Koshkonong where I learned of a bunch of car enthusiasts in the immediate area. I think there's 1 built muscle car for every 15 houses in that area. Great group of guys.

Welcome to the site Lambeau and congrats on a great find. As many have said, Wisconsin is a great place to find cars and good people. The vast majority of the LS-6 Chevelles that have surfaced over the last few years have come from Wisconsin.

From what I understand any 67 SS built Before June of 67 was either a 325 or 350 HP version. The 375 HP cars were not built until after June of 67. My car was built the 2nd week of April 67. Without the buildsheet or POP I have no way of knowing what engine it came with I guess. It's funny but I've never had an interest in Chevelles and always liked the 65-67 vettes. I've owned 2 C-4 vettes but was always attracted to the 67 Chevelle as it has the classic musclecar lines. I just got really lucky and at least found a car that I somewhat liked! I will be doing the 2" drop spndles, 4 wheel-disc brakes etc on this car but will not modify it where it can not be taken back to 100% original. The engine will be around 750 HP so it should be fun!

Yeah, there have always been lots of musclcars up here. The LONGGGG winters gives us time to work on our cars as we have snow on the ground from November-April up here by Lake Superior!
