Default Heater/ A.C. Blower Motor Question

Stupid question.......but it's something I've never had a problem with before.....On the way back from Lombard yesterday with the A.C. on.......the blower motor started Squeeling like crazy on high, went away on med and low....but there wasn't any airflow except on high...when I got home I pulled out the Blower Assy and the motor shaft and hub spun seperately from the squirrel cage assy.....I'm thinking that some spot welds holding the blower to the hub failed.....I didn't take the assy apart because there is sort of a friction clip holding the unit to the shaft(Been down that road) and I thought I would ask here before I only make it worse..

Thanks
Ken

I thought the end of the blower motor had threads and there was a nut holding the cage on.

That's what I would have thought.....this has some sort of a friction clip I've never seen before.......

Maybe ask this same question on Team Chevelle...assuming that this is happening on one of the Chevelles...?

Sometimes I make simple things very complicated.......I took the blower motor out again and looked a little closer at the way it was put together....what happened was that the drive hub in the squirrel cage assy came loose which allowed it to slip and not drive the blower correctly.......the friction clip ended up being a thin speed nut that was pushed on at assembly to hold the unit together.....
I ended up takeing two large sockets and put the blower/ hub assy between them and squeezed them in a vise and recrimped the unit tightly together....Works like new ...(Polish Engineering)

Good deal Ken!

Hey...how are all of you midwesterners liking the heat?

It's only supposed to get to 98 degrees here today...with lows in the upper 70's
