Colvin says that the 388 block was used in rare Z/28 applications, and the Sept. '68 casting date would be correct for this block. Even Colvin says that it's a rare block, and that not much is known about it.
What I find interesting is that the car is tagged for a black vinyl roof (missing), X coded befor X codes were used, and ZL2 hood before it was an available option.
Rare investment?
Trust everyone, but always cut the cards.

He's riding that block for all that it's worth,i'm assuming the trans and rear aren't BORN IN as they're not described in CAPS.My LOS 69Z is an I-23-8 casting/I-25 pad stamp 10C build. That block is an I-9/Nov 5th assy/ 12C build..why the three month gap between casting and build?. If I remember correctly there were four of those blocks,at least one found in an LA built car also.

Speaking of new terminology what's a "restorationist"?.Is that out of Don Kings lexicon,or did he attempt to return the car to early christianity?

'Restorationist' sounds like a term to describe a combination restoration/extortionist...not necessarily this guy but somehow a fitting name for some?!.

My 04C Norwood built '69z has an original 388 block, april '69 cast and assembled. I have heard of other small blocks built in this part of the year with 388 blocks, pace cars and Z28s. The 12C (dec. '68) tag was not too early for the X codes. My old X77 z recently for sale on this site (Alan B.) was also a 12C built car. I think this was the earliest the X codes appeared, 12C.

I still have all the parts I was born with .....some still work fine, others are showing signs of wear. Keeping with the spirit of originality, I have decided to label myself a "survivor". There have been a few touchups over the years, but nothing major. Only normal wear and tear maintenance items have been changed. My compression is down a little, but who's isn't.?? Overall condition is good, all systems work and function as delivered from the factory. With proper maintenance and a little luck there should be many years left in this chassis...

I hope so Tom since they never made any NOS parts for your model. You are one of one.
