Opening day is this Saturday and after a winter I'd rather forget it will be great to get out and smell some real gas burning!!



this was a very clean 70' that saw duty in RVHD about 20 years ago

[b] Its great to hear Riverhead Raceway has survived another year. Its a shame that progress and noise abatement have made it the last oval track on the Island. We spent many great race nights at Freeport,
Islip and Riverhead. We will be there again this year!
And forget about some of the cars we cut up to race there!!

I am only ten minutes away and usually go once a month. Nothing like the shredded tire rubber floating in your beer. I believe it is actually the last track of any kind on Long Island. There is talk/proposal of a new track at yaphank or calverton.

a sad scene indeed, looks like it's set up for four wheel drive racing now

I used to love to hear the cars screaming around that place. Now the sound of those golf balls getting whacked is killing me!!

you can still make out the shape of the track, the front stretch is still there as is the outline of most turns. they scraped up the asphalt and left it rough so we wouldnt drive on it. the yellow circle at the bottom is "The Bridge", it is still standing.

Steve, I'll be top row between the starter and turn one, just north of those rowdy guys that get real drunk. they are fun to watch during the cautions.
