Ok. I am not a Camaro guy but one made me real sick yesterday.Friend in high school had a original 69 Z-28, blew the motor in 79 and it has been sitting ever since.I have watched the car since then asking a couple times a year if it was for sale and was always told Joe if it goes you will get first option. That held right up to 3 months ago it seemed as yesterday I seen it passing on a trailer and chased it right to the yard of the new owner.Unreal.
I know the car is very rare since I have not seen too many as optioned as it was but the big thing it had factory rear disc brakes.Car was loaded from what I recall.To give you some idea and I don't know what was original or possibly installed by someone. 302 with a 4spd M22( which I have since about 86),front and rear disc brakes, front 4 piston I think??,12 bolt posi,cowl hood, hideaway headlights and washers??,rear fold down seat, tilt and wood wheel,all tinted glass, buckets with head rests and houndstooth interior as well as wood grain on the dash,PB, P/S, remote mirror,rear and front spoiler, rear bumperettes,rubber front bumper,fiber optics, console, tach, am/fm,deluxe seat belts, rally wheels and more I probally am missing. It was said in the day it was a Z-28 RS what ever than means and was originally a cross ram car which is possible since there was a complete cross ram floating around in this area back then for sale.They say it was ordered for a dealers son and loaded, which I think it is. Now the car was a basket case on the body side from being in Nova Scotia but he had every and I mean every panel NOS to repair it.Two quaters , wheel housings, front fenders, door skins, inner fenders, rockers, cowl hood, etc etc all bought in the late 70's from GM to do it. Mostly all new chrome and rubbers. Rear was original, I have the M22 and the motor was complete in the basement with another 302 block. Original block was wrecked but he had it.The heads intake, holley, valve covers and air cleaner were all there. Here is the kicker. It sold for $8000.00 Canadian. Oh Boy ![]() ![]() The guy that has it now we don't get along, he is a butcher in my mind. He did a pro street, tubed frame and tubs etc on a original matching number 70 ls-5 convertible and that was enough for me. He will probally do the same to the camaro since that seems like all he knows how to do. I did speak you my so called high school chum and he said well Joe I had heard you were sick and I didn't think you would take this project on. I might be sick but there was at least two site members I had mentioned this to and they would have come to canada for it and restored it properly.I will try to get some pictures if I can since it is still in the yard. ![]() ![]() |

I know how you feel, as I had first right of refusal on a 70 W30 years ago that I had known from new. My friend didn't think I would still want it, so sold it to a guy who stripped it to make a W30 pace car convertible. I saw the car a couple of years later rotting in someones yard.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Some day we will talk over a beer and I can tell you all about one that got away from me the very same way. I stayed drunk for many days after that one and I am not a heavy drinker! ![]() Rick

Bummer...been there too Joe and it sucks especially when it's a car killer getting their hands on something special..
Do you have the Vin...could be best to try for GM Canada docs and if you can't end up w/ the car quickly turn someone onto the guy before he gets started?. ~ Pete ![]()

Thanks Guys. I guess what upset me so was the fact it was not 3 months ago I checked on this car for a site member and was told when he does sell I would get a call.
Offering more money is not going to work. This guy owns a salvage yard and not a poor one.The nos parts were worth what he paid for it. |

Same thing happened to me many years ago, with a silver 71 challenger six pack car. The car was trashed immediately, and the guy bought it for less than I had offered to pay the previous year. Some things just don't make sense.

Hello Joe,
The person who had the 1969 Z-28. When you talked to him about sell in car. He told you that you had first offer. How long did this guy have the Camaro? How did you get the engine and transmission? How long ago did you buy them? What color was the exterior paint and stripes? What color interior trim? How are you with your health? What a nice friend you have or had. He should have called you no matter what. He just didn't want to you have it or else he'd see it when the car would have been restored and that may have bothered him.

He called in the middle of the winter and I took it out in the freezing cold. No idea why he sold it at the time.I don't know the exact color but it was a light blue with white stripes not lemans blue and a black houndstooth interior.I am hanging in thanks for asking Joe |
