how do I figure out the start up wattage for a compressor? Amps x watts ??
Amps X volts?? I am looking at picking up a generator that I can use with my compressor and or Mig welder instead of spinning the house meter. Compressor is a 240V/7HP motor.

The motor should have the running amps listed. Generally an AC motor will draw 5 to 5.5 times the running amps on start-up for a brief moment.
If I remember right 1HP = 746 watts.
