1968 GTO Convertible
Guys , this is for any GTO guy's out there , but I'm just curious on what they think of this car. I bought it a year ago I'm trying to get a good idea of what a frame off GTO conv would be worth in order to decide to do it ( my choice), leave it as is or just do a re-paint.This car is the most highly loaded 68 car I've ever seen. When the guy told me the options in it , I thought he was full of Sh-t and maybe added them himself. He was the 3rd owner and had the car since 1992. So here goes, this is what the car has. It's an 85,000 orig mile GTO Convertible, orig Veradaro green, now Meridian Turquoise was repainted in 92.The car has a 400 ci , 350 hp , turbo Hydromatic, bucket seat , console ,rally guage cluster his and hers shifter,Air cond, AM-FM stereo,Tilt steering, Cruise control, Power steering, power brakes, power top , power rear antenna, soft ray glass, and several other misc options. I got the PHS on the car, and this is exactly how it was ordered!!Needless to say we , we worked out a deal last year and I picked up the car. The car still has it's orig engine, tranny and rear end. No Rust, the frame looks real good, no hit, however the rear qtrs are defenitely in need of work , look like it was sanded with a broom, and a few bubbles popped up on the hood. Trunk needs a new pan too, but that typical for convertibles. Anyhow my questions would be , have you ever heard of another car with this many options on it ? This GTO listed out at $4653.34 in Dec of 1967. The car currently has an elderbrock carb on it and a new hood tach, but I have the originals. Assuming frame off cost of $30,-$40,000 as I'm assuming everything is there , and just to repaint on the frame at $7,500- $12,000 can a car like this command a premium price? You seem to be able to find GTO converts out there for +/- $30-$40,000 US all day long, but I'm thinking this is a little different. I'm mostly a Chevelle guy at heart , and I've delayed restoring this car as till likely next year or even 2 yrs from now. Any thoughts on where the value is ? I'll send pics to anyone that knows how to post them if they'd like to see it. Thx Bob
