Default NASCAR Busch series may switch to muscle cars....

There are heavy rumors that the series may run cars based on 08/09 Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers. I for one, think it would be a great idea.

Thoughts?....Opinions?....

NASCAR - just say no.

Just not my cup of tea. However, it would be interesting
to see them run muscle cars again......

From http://www.jayski.com/busch/busch.htm

Pony Cars Coming To Series: NASCAR hopes to inject new life into its Busch Series by changing the types of cars raced, beginning as early as 2009, according to multiple sources familiar with the project. If plans go according to schedule, the next-generation Busch Series cars will be Chevy Camaros, Dodge Challengers, Ford Mustangs and an as-yet-to-be named Toyota model, sources said. Ford overhauled the Mustang as a 1960s-retro model in 2005, to positive critical and commercial results. Chevrolet and Dodge will release similarly retro-themed Camaros and Challengers, respectively, by the 2009 model year. The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger all are two-door coupes with rear-wheel drive and available V-8 engines, a hugely popular combination in the halcyon days of 1960s muscle cars. A switch to these cars - plus whichever model Toyota chooses to campaign - would make a huge amount of sense, as it would help the Busch Series have its own distinct identity apart from Nextel Cup and help remove the stigma of the series as "Cup Lite," as some call it now. Sources familiar with the project said NASCAR has discussed the idea of switching cars with the manufacturers and has received a positive reception for the idea.(SPEEDtv.com)(9-15-2007)

[/ QUOTE ]How can you be from North Carolina and not like NASCAR?!? I like it but to each his own. I've noticed especially here that people love it or really hate it. It would be really cool if they drove muscle cars. As long as you could actually tell what model the cars are and they don't all look the same. That of course would defeat the purpose.

this story has been flying around since March 2006 sports news

no sign of any official news from NASCAR.
Jayski is just paraphrasing some 18 month old rumor.
the cars would be nice in any stock series.

Why doesn't someone restart the old trans-am series seeing how these three models will once again be around. Obviously they wouldn't be able to limit displacement like in the old days because there aren't that many engine choices anymore, but they could use the same type of rules as the speed world challenge to help level the playing field. For example- the mustang would be allowed to use some form of power upgrade to match the power of the camaro and challenger. I wasn't around to see this series when it was in its prime but I think it would be great to see these powerful rear wheel drive cars sliding around the corners with engines at full song fighting for every last little bit of traction.

Trans am has been running support for Champ Car (not the shitbox IRL) for years. I think they changed the name again this past season. I watched them run Long Beach for years.
Great sound great cars, and great racing.

If busch goes this way and keeps the cars "STOCK", it could be a hit.

Formula 1 still rules as the ultimate!

I always wondered that too. It seemed to me that it was a popular series. I for one would love to see it come back!
