Default Electrical Question...

When I disconnect the positive cable from the battery on one of the cars there is a good size spark discharge if the cable end touches ground. What would cause this to happen..???

I'm no scientist, but isn't this because you're still completing the circuit? The metal the negative end touches has full range of electricity because the positive cable is providing the charge from the battery.

Yes...that's what happens. There is also a strong spark when you reconnect the positive cable to the battery terminal. I notice a little spark with the other cars, but this is much stronger. Something must be on our shorting out somewhere....everything works fine on the car...no problems

1st of all never take the pos. cable loose from a battery 1st. If you take the ground loose 1st and your wrench hits ground there is no sparks. If you take the pos. loose 1st and hit ground you have a arc welder.

Anything that stores voltage (condensor, possible radio capistors etc.) can cause a spark as you mentioned. Anything drawing any voltage at all (alternator, clock etc) can cause a spark when connecting battery back.
