1970 Chevelle cowl hood spring question
A friend of mine has a 1970 Chevelle with a working cowl hood on it. The hood springs on the car do not hold the hood when open to prevent it from sagging and thus he needs a stick to keep it open . My question is: Are the 1970 Chevelle hood springs on a working cowl hood different from regular hood springs? If yes, who sells the best 1970 Chevelle cowl hood springs to solve this problem? Thanks

Standard hood springs have 26 coils. Cowl hood springs have 29 coils and the spring is smaller in diameter than the standard spring. Up until a couple of years ago you could still buy these NOS from Chevrolet. Now you can still find them on Facebook and ebay. I believe most of the reproduction retailers sell a replacement spring as well. They are hit or miss whether they will hold the hood open or not.
