Re: Rebuilt L-78 396-375 hp 1969
Your CKO engine appears to be a 1970 "402 L-78. I'm interested in buying, AFTER I can see CLEAR pictures of the DECK assy date stamping , AND the Vin # stamping that may be on lower left bellhousing flange....PLEASE Email me at [email protected] Chuck Sharin

Re: Rebuilt L-78 396-375 hp 1969
Wouldn't a January of 1969 block be correct for a 1969 model car? Could the CKO be a restamp? Just a guess. m

Re: Rebuilt L-78 396-375 hp 1969
I would imagine it's really the letter "I" as in I-11-69.
Decodes as September 11th,1969.In this time frame,it's Originally a Manual trans. 1970 L78 Chevelle-Elco-Nova. |

When we can read or SEE the block/deck assy date codes and read/see the VIN # stampings this engines origin will become clear......VIN example below
