It's not a GM block. Looks more like a Mopar block, or a Ford FE. I don't remember any GM skirted blocks like that. It's pretty cool anyway.

I thought the same thing, with the mains captured down inside the block.

Way cool also love to hear the whole story. Reminds me of this Supercharged mini motor we looked at here a couple years back... https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1295751 ~ Pete .

GM Foundry Club Trophy
It is a 1957 Buick 364 Nailhead Bare Block. I know-my brother still has his 1957 Buick Century 4 dr. that was our grandfather's car and I rebuilt that engine in 1986.

THANK YOU SIR... I knew you would have a handle on this...
AWESOME! I really do like the bronze crankshaft... I though about justifying that purchase six ways from sunday.

I believe that says "GMI Foundry Club", where GMI = General Motors Institute.

When dad was in the die room they would make 1/4 scale stamped components so that they could evaluate depth of draw, tearing of the metal, and other formability characteristics.
They made a batch of 1/4 scale Chevy small block oil pans and had a bunch left over after the business purpose was complete. He said for a while there anybody that was retiring or leaving the group would get one of these chromed oil pans mounted to a wood plaque as a going away present. K
