Buy yourself a fresh one unless you feel the repop isn't correct. You can bet it will be considerably less expensive...even if someone does restore them.

Hi, Going through old posts looking for help with the same question. I'm wanting to re-chrome while keeping the original rivet appearance. Did you happen to find someone who does this service?

Why don't you look for a nos one? they are not that hard to find, Try a mercruser dealer, probably be in a 36- part area they used them in the early HP engines up to 90 for the HP465 and early HP500 so did Volvo and the jet pack suppliers, I might still have a nos one I would need to look but I have had quite a few in the Qicksiver package (mercruiser) alot of people looking for engine parts and hardware forget about marine they just got their parts from the OE's there were way more Big hp gm engines put in the marine field than ever dreamt on the street. The only reason alot of the factory stuff is still available is because of the big contracts with mercruiser and volvo.

Sorry, I'm still trying to figure out how to attach multiple files to a single post, but here to the top view.

Wow, new perspective, thanks. I’ve always thought these caps were rather elusive to find. Prior to posting, I did a Goggle searched and I remember seeing MerCruiser in the list. I just assumed they would supply only a functional replacement. Do you if theirs has the square configuration on the rivet bottom (the end that gets “smashed”, for lack of better terms), original profile, SM stamp, etc?
If you have one, please let me know. I attached a couple pictures of the cap GM#3851735. Thanks, Scott |

They are the same, not a very good pic with the wires covering it, but I took these off a merc motor for beater, I use to have a bunch of them but a furnace explosion in my garage a few years ago took out about 300k in inventory parts and engines I had kept from Performance Marine. I have a few items left not sure if I have any new ones still, but I will take a look when I get a chance.
