Not sure if this is an acceptable post or not so if not let me know.
Here is the deal. I am currently in the middle of an emergency move. Long story short we have black mold and are getting sick from it. The landlord and condo association are of no help and we have to get out now. We need to make room in storage so we can get everything out of the apartment post haste so I have been trying to get rid of unneeded parts etc. Once upon a time I had a small comic store 15+ years ago and have around 3000+ comics left from it which takes up an area that we really really need now. If anyone is interested in them or knows someone who is please contact me as I will let them go disgustingly cheap. Talking $750 for the lot, that's less than $.25 each. They range in age from 1950's through the early 90's with most being 1970's onward. Thanks |

How would you like this in your place, smells wonderful to boot. This is just one small spot about 2'x3'. Going on three months of arguing and still have not even gotten anyone to show up and do an estimate from these guys.

Man, that is awful! Is that the Chinese drywall the news was talking about a few months back? How old is the condo?

I hate to have to ask, but what is the condition of the magazines. Many years ago a basement flood wound up molding out 100's of my mags that were in an ajoining room.

Comics were never stored here, they do have the usual musty routine going from years of storage but were never exposed to the hell that is my home.
The ceiling is a simple sheetrock ceiling with a layer of heavy spackle/putty of some sort over it and a swirl pattern applied over top of it. The ceiling was probably done I would say at least 20 years ago. The condo building itself is over 90 years old. The owner of the condo above me decided to remodel between tenants and among other things decided to install a European toilet that does not match the American piping. Can be done with some modifications by a pro plumber though. He used an unlicensed contractor and needless to say it leaked very badly and two months later still has as slow drip. The initial incident started when I heard a slow drip on the ceiling and notified the super, he said he could not check it right now but let him know if it got worse. Two hours later called him and told him that the leak had gotten far far worse and water was now coming out of the light fixtures. Turned the electric off to the rear of the place and waited and complained and waited, etc. Over 48 hours later they finally got the water shut off but not before I dumped over 40 gallons of water out of buckets into the bath tub. Told the super, condo association and owners all that they need to remove the ceiling immediately and get dryers in there or there will be a mold problem. Two+ months later I have not gotten anyone to do anything more than say they are working on getting an estimate or waiting for insurance, etc. Now it looks like that. I hired an independent inspector to do air samples and came back with black mold. Looking to get everything out before everything we own is contaminated and needs to be abandoned which is why I need the storage space. Thankfully I used to run part of a boiler company where one of my duties was to handle the mold and asbestos issues (contain and coordinate with the re mediators) in regards to PPE and Osha, etc. SO thankfully I started working on minimizing the exposure since day one but it gets worse daily despite my efforts and the stink is getting beyond nasty at this point. |

Contact your local building department and health department and tell them about the mold. I'll bet something gets done then.
