I purchased this complete short block last week and wanted some opinions on the stampings being real or not. I believe they are real factory stampings but looks like the guy at the GM plant was playing around and stamped it three times with the same Vin number. The block does not look decked and has some pitting and the vertical broaching. It was complete with all original components, i.e. 6764 crankshaft, original camshaft, pistons, rods, oil pump, oil pan with windage tray, timing cover and factory timing chain. The block also has MO and 302 on both sides of the block. Any help would be appreciated. I'm 99 percent sure its real but it never hurts to hear from some knowledgable guys. Stamped V0308MO and casted date looks like B 21 7 or B 27 7.

I have the engine at the Machine Shop for rebuilding. The block can remain standard, but will have a couple minor pitts down low in the cylinders after a clean-up honing. This means I can still use the original factory one year only pistons. The camshaft has two lobes that have minor pitting and was advised not to used because it would wipe it out and hurt the engine. I would like to used it but don't know if my rebuilder is over kill and scaring me. He did provide me with a guy that reground camshaft to repair it, since its dated to the engine. I do have a NOS off road GM camshaft that could be used instead. The 6764 crankshaft is mint and requires just a polish. I'm thinking of having the block decked, since it has the wrong built date and vin number. At, least I know it was real 302 motor and still would be in my opinion.
