And look at the license plate: Yenko ZL1; that would lead me to beleive that it's a made up car. Very nice looking but, made up.

Sure looks like the clone car that sold at Pheasant Run Mecum auction about 3 years ago. Very nicely done car that sold at a very reasonable price.

This car leads me to believe it has been fitted with one of the Yenko aluminum blocks or possibly a complete engine such as my car has. This car and my car represent what could have been produced in the event a customer missed out on one of the 201 Yenko COPO Camaro's, therefore he implants real Yenko power into his own Camaro at a later date. IMHO a Camaro with authentic Yenko power implanted in the car becomes worthy of Yenko badges. My "complete" Yenko engine uses one of the 4.440" bore ZL-1 blocks along with an LS-7 4.00" stroke crankshaft to build a 496 CID Yenko ZL-1 engine. I have all the original sales receipts that indicate all the HD GM engine components were speced by Bill Smith then balanced, assembled, and dynoed by J&D Engineering. I spoke to the original owner of the engine who said he only asked Bill for a "streetable" cam installed in the engine. Otherwise the selection of components was totally by Yenko. The remainder of my car has all the components of a Lamans blue 4 speed COPO Camaro. I love black RS Camaro's. I had one that I raced in 10.5 classes using a Big Chief headed 565" BBC and nitrous. I sure do miss that car. Later |
