That's what the original owner of this 68 corvette had in mind. He lived in Philadelphia and bought this rally red 68 corvette with a tri-power carb and four speed. He drove it in stock trim while he was making payments.Then after that last one was mailed off he ordered a load of equipment from MOTION. He always loved the MOTION cars but he was just a working guy so he ordered the conversion kit from MOTION and had it installed at a shop there in Philadelphia to convert the car to a Phase III. That was in 1973.

You have to admit this is a beautiful Vette! now... what would a kind of 'home built' back in the 70's 'Motion' be worth?? A guy buy s the whole 'kit' to make his Vette a Motion.

It is kind of a cool story as well. One I would not mind telling at car shows if this baby was mine!

IMHO, this is a very carefully worded ad--- Motion did not jump into Corvettes until 1969. This is simply a car built with "over the counter parts" installed at some guy's shop.
I think the car is BEAUTIFUL and very unique. But it is not a Motion Car---Joel Rosen will not authenticate these cars.

A local friend bought a 69 L-71 Corvette--drove to Motion Performance in Long Island--spent a ton of money having Motion install their goodies. The guy still owns the car and Joel sent him a letter in 1983, long before prices went crazy; refusing to authenticate such a car "built over the counter".

If you like the car, buy it. But it is what it is.

Actually the first Baldwin-Motion Corvettes were in 1968, mildly modified stockers. The car on eBay is beautiful but it was built (not by Motion) using parts that were in the Motion catalog and available over the counter at Motion. It is not a Motion car. Back in the day Motion did an incredible business selling parts from catalogs and advts that I created!

I owned this car and did restoration. Anyone who has been to a SCR over the last few years has seen the car in the show and my favorite part at the drag strip. You are right "it is what it is" and is documented to that fact. It has always been represented as such. This car has had great exposure and anyone who has any interest in Motion knows this car and its story. The photos and wording being used are actually from a Nov. 07 feature in Corvette Fever. The new owner is a very nice guy. If anyone here is interested in the car I would be happy to answer any questions or assist in any way.

I think part of the appeal of this car, apart from being absolutely beautiful, is that the car has no stories or 'fabrications'. There is no having to read between the lines of the description.

It is a known car that is being sold as exactly what it is. I kind of think the story adds to the appeal!

I guess I am missing something here, as I think the Ebay ad is very well done, not mis-leading at all.

Another very similar situation is the special paint '69 Yenko Nova, where the owners always been upfront and honest about how the car was built.

Both very cool cars that I would love to own.


IMO, it would benefit our hobby greatly if more folks were as upfront and honest as the past and present owners of these two cars have been.
