Wanted to start a new thread on this. Does anybody know anything about these Curry cars mentioned in this ad? The only black '70 Z I am familiar with is the stripe-less COPO spoiler one.
Love to find out more. If Curry is still in existence maybe I will try and contact someone from back in the day there. In the meantime, who knows what? Anybody? Painted by Curry? (Why? - thought black was not that popular a colour - regional thing?) Special ordered ? that means -- on TRIM TAG right? |

Curry Chevrolet is still in business...they have been a fixture in Westchester County for over 75 years. Not sure you will find anyone from the "old days" still around..but, it's possible. I would check first with someone in the parts department...those guys tend to have the most longevity and may understand what your talking about. The sales staff would be clueless...the other big Chevy name back in the day from that area was Byrne Bros. in White Plains...they had a very aggressive hi-performance program...I used to know the guys in their parts dept. back then (late 70's)...they new the score!
I like they way Curry spelled "Duce".... I may be able to dig up a contact if you strike out...good luck. wilma

It is strange that black was not offerred on Camaros in '70 as it was a standard Camaro color in '69 and again in 71. There were certainly plenty of black '70 Chevelles sold, so I would not think it was soley a popularity issue.

I think it had more to do with the specific plants. Black was a "restricted" color in 1969 on Camaros. |

I've seen that car & another Black 70 Copo Z. Both cars are L.A. Cars the one i saw in 2006 at the Camaro Nats. actually had 2 build sheets 1 showing it was painted copper & the 2nd is for when it was re-ran through the paint dept. & documented being painted over in black. If you looked real close in some of the trunk areas & tight corners of the car you can see the copper. I'm not sure the mileage or anything else on the car but i know Phil Borris was all over it just as i walked up to check it out. I'm not sure if any L.A. cars would end up at Curry or if his Zone would only put him as getting Norwood built cars, not sure how that works.
