I see a lot of day 2 builds focused on late-60s / early-70s themes (which is very cool, btw)!
I decided to "day 2" my Chevy II. Cragar S/S, Keystone, Torq thrusts, etc were just coming on the scene in '65-66 time period, and they were very expensive. Many went for Chrome reverse, or stock type wheels, as they were the cheapest option to dress up a stocker. You don't see that look on '60s cars these days (except for customs), even though they were a popular muscle car wheel in the '64-'68 time period (and even before that). These are Wheel Vintiques series 64 - 14x5 front, 14x6 rear. Tires are modern radials with a white stripe close to the width popular in the mid-60s - 185/70 front - 215/70 rear. ![]() ![]() ![]() Car is a 327, M20, 3.36 posi. |

Looks good man. A little more American Graffiti feeling that drag race- which is a bit more of what the late 60's trend was I guess.
What do you think would be a street influence of 1965 drag race ques? |

Check out Wally Booth's SS/D winning Chevelle from '67: ![]() Or Tony Pizzi's camaro http://www.colesy-juniorstockforum.c...le.php?id=3313 These cars have blackwalls, but you do see old pics of whitewalls on race cars in this era. Thanks for all the compliments, guys! |

Yep, the entry level "custom" wheel in the '60s was the chrome steel wheel and chrome/reversed. Mags were always expensive, even the cheap ones. Whitewalls added "class" to the car until redlines, goldlines and bluelines came along and then lettered tires became cool in the later '60s. The chrome steelie with a thin whitewall is the original classy Day 2 wheel.
