Yenko Engine #615842

First time post for me. I am the guy that bought the Yenko motor on ebay a few years back. I paid $25k for it, which I know is a lot for a complete motor still needing to be rebuilt, but knowing the chassis was still around my excitement got the best of me. I thought there would be a way to get the two together. The motor is certified by Jerry MacNeish but the owner of the chassis doesn't have the funds to buy the motor and is not willing to sell the chassis. I've been patient for a couple years and understand I probably won't get all my money back but am starting to lose interest. I have a couple groups interested in the motor for $15-$20k to build a replica with a "real" yenko motor but at this point not sure which direction to go. Any suggestions?

If I had that car, I would borrow money if need be (well, maybe not, I am allergic to debt - haven't had a car payment since 1970).
One way or another, I would find a way to reunite engine and car. I think the prevailing opinion is that a Yenko is worth about 30k to 50k more than a "regular" COPO. Makes that $25k original engine look pretty attractive.

I remember that auction - I understand your predicament. Could you define "chassis" - so the car body with partial VIN stampings actually still exists?

IMO, if you are only interested in the $$$ aspect of it, then dump it on ebay again. If you are interested in re-uniting it with the chassis, then maybe you could take payments for 5 years or consider taking a loss on it.. You have no connection to the engine since it was an item that you were simply the high bidder on, and maybe the chassis owner has been looking for this engine for twenty years.

I do think that it's great that you came to a forum of enthusiasts for advice, instead of parting it out or putting it in a Hyundai...

So in the end, I'd say to find out a way to re-unite it...

I would think that the Born with engine would easily add 20k+ to the selling price of a Yenko Camaro maybe more if it were in a HO or DY body.

It might be worth something to another Yenko owner that hasn't restored their car yet ...to have another real Yenko motor in their car. If you decide to take payments from the chassis owner...make sure you are paid in full prior to releasing the motor . Also put in contract form with a deadline date

How did you find the owner of the car?

The engine belongs to a Fathom Green turbo 400 car. Color may add some extra value to any car, but I would think that any well done original engine Yenko Camaro regardless of color, would have additional value over a similar car with a CE block....BKH
